Sailing can take you on a journey. Good writing can, too.
”Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Sailing isn’t rocket science. Writing isn’t either.
But, if you mess up out at sea you can end up in big trouble. Try sending the wrong email message out to a large group of your most important clients. The consequences aren’t exactly life and death. But the consequences of a poorly written message can be dire. Avoid “sailing the wrong journey!”
Definition: Seamanship is the skill, techniques, or practice of handling a ship or boat at sea.
Definition: Writing is the activity or skill of composing words into coherent text.
Good seamanship is like good writing. Based on sound preparation, experience and total focus.
Both sailing and writing appear to be seamless. You only notice the mistakes in your preparation when things go wrong —
— when you go to change course
and your tack ends up “in irons” with no control over the yacht
— when your grammar mangles a sentence rendering the sentence incomprehensible
“If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it.”
Sailing Team Work
The best sailing is a team effort. Some of the best writing is teamwork, too. The captain manages the overall voyage and the crew take care of the specific details.
An author creates the piece of writing. Your proof-reader and editor improve and perfect your writing. Sailing is like writing. I can help you with your writing.

Sailing is Like Writing – Just Do It
Above all sailing is like writing, because the more you do the better you become.
Armchair sailors aren’t improving their seamanship. Sailors who sail are.
Good writers write every day. Practice makes perfect.
Dream. Discover. Explore. Sailing is like writing! And, above all if you want to improve, just do it.
I do! I write. Find my writing about my sailing adventures in my blog http://sailingtravelblog.com
