About Shauna McGee Kinney

Time Travelling with a Writer [2015-2017]

Shauna McGee Kinney edited this story in March 2017. Her story starts right here, right now -- and travels back into history. She is writing for engineers from an overseas office in Seoul. The start of the tax year brought an updated logo and new branding. The business has changed from PerthWrite to SMK Writer to better represent the overseas move.

“Anything one man can imagine, other men can make real.”
― Jules Verne, Around the World in Eighty Days

Shauna is following her husband's career. She is a member of a "tribe of digital nomads." Our "digital villages" are our websites, social media and within SKYPE. We run our own "hunting parties" (we do our own marketing and sales). We have "our own huts" (we remain sole traders). And, unlike a union or association, we have no governing body. We instead share the knowledge we gained in our online business travels.

The Writing Machine [2009-2015]

Shauna's edits dozens of business procedures, and performance standards into a new templates. Services were more than "changing the oil and rotating the tires" on the old docs.  The migration involves improving readability. She loads the new docs into a document management system for an "all-points check" by the document controller. Mining and facility engineering companies are powered up with her support.

The Training Machine [2009-2015]

She trains communications staff how to update their new website. Shauna delivers knowledge-transfers (slideshows and screenshots) for the participants to  reference after the training. She helps web developer's clients, construction companies, and mining companies to learn how to DIY their web content.

The Proposal Machine [2009-2015]

Shauna edits and writes executive summaries, biographies, and project roadmaps for software development proposals. She taps into historic content (older marketing docs) and uncovers some modern correlations. Her work serves software developers, and online marketing companies.

Rise of the Machines [2009-2013]

The years 2009-2013 were Shauna's re-transformation. She evolved through Murdoch Executive Education training in Applied Project Management, Contract Administration, and the Management Masterclass. She also morphed her skills into sailing journalism for the ISAF Olympic sailing test event in 2010 and ISAF Olympic sailing trials in 2011.

"If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable."
- Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Back to the Future [2006-2008]

Set your clocks back to 2006 to 2008. Shauna relocates to Perth, Australia from Los Angeles, California. The transition was a little disorienting, especially summer in December. She updated websites in the US for a catamaran engineer, a film producer, and an IT consultant. She was a digital nomad in another time zone.

"I believe our adventure through time has taken a most serious turn."

Time Bandit - The Computer Trainer [1994-1999]

Here we sit, at the beginning of Shauna's career. 1994 to 1999. Her career started as an evening and weekend job as a computer trainer. The side job allowed her to study full-time at university and city college.

"For time is the longest distance between two places."
- Tennessee Williams

By 1997,  she was working as a full-time corporate trainer and training developer. One of the highlights of her early career was a happenstance project with this league of fine gentlemen (hint, click on the picture). Shauna enjoyed writing computer training for automotive, aerospace and entertainment companies. She delivered the classroom training at the completion writing the instructions. Her students were usually executives, sales reps and admins.

Sink, Swim or Transit [1989-1995]

Shauna was a student from 1989 through to 1995. No career yet. Just that side job teaching computers. She studied Architecture at the University of Southern California, and Engineering Technology (Mechanical Drafting and Land Surveying) at Pasadena City College.

"No matter where you go, there you are."
-- Buckaroo Bonzai

Her career has been like the Adventures of Buckaroo Bonsai. Take a back-angle on her studies, and level her career. She's corrected out and come full circle. Shauna is honoured to be working with computers and working amongst technical people.
